Leaked trailer for EA Motive's Iron Man game shows flying, suit customisation and multiple villains

A leaked trailer for EA Motive's upcoming Iron Man game has surfaced online, offering the first substantial look at the superhero title four years after it was announced. The footage, which combines cinematic story beats with actual gameplay, was shared on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit and quickly spread across social media before being taken down, potentially due to on-screen identifiers that could help EA trace the leaker.

The trailer is more than two and a half minutes long and provides a glimpse of the game's take on Tony Stark, both in and out of his armour. While the footage lacks sound and contains unfinished assets, the character's charisma still comes through, seemingly inspired by the MCU portrayal of the hero. The trailer shows Iron Man flying through what appears to be New York City, engaging in combat with explosive gadgets and melee attacks, and fighting on a Shield Helicarrier that fans of the Marvel films will recognise.

A notable feature teased in the trailer is the ability to customise Iron Man's suit. The footage shows Stark working on a suit on a mannequin, with other suit options visible in the background, suggesting players will have multiple suits to choose from and possibly the ability to tweak and customise them, similar to the approach taken in Insomniac's Spider-Man games. The trailer also hints at a progression system for upgrading the armour.

The leaked footage gives a first look at some of the villains Iron Man will face. While the low quality of the footage makes it difficult to identify them with certainty, one appears to be a slimmed-down version of Iron Monger. The trailer also shows Iron Man fighting generic mechs on a helicarrier, and the presence of multiple villains suggests the game may feature a rogues' gallery akin to the first Insomniac Spider-Man title.

Brief cuts in the trailer also show comic book mainstays including Pepper Potts and James Rhodes. The footage includes placeholder credits listing Hulk and Ultron as the game's world director and executive producer, respectively, a clear indication that the trailer is from an early build and that everything shown is subject to change.

EA Motive, the studio behind the Dead Space remake, first announced its collaboration with Marvel Games in 2022. At that time, the project was described as a third-person, single-player action-adventure game that would tell an original story about Tony Stark. Little else has been revealed since, making this leaked trailer the most detailed look at the game yet.

This leak comes days after footage from a separate, cancelled Iron Man game by Avalanche Studios also appeared online. That gameplay, supposedly pulled from a PS3 devkit, showed what the Just Cause developer's take on the superhero would have looked like before the project was abandoned. The timing of both leaks appears to be coincidental.

EA has not commented on the validity of the leaked footage. As with any in-development game, the content seen in the trailer is subject to change before release, and no release date or window has been confirmed for the project.
