Lego Skylines announced at Gamescom 2026 as a city builder from the Cities: Skylines team

Paradox Interactive has officially confirmed Lego Skylines, a city-building game that combines the Lego building system with the formula of the Cities: Skylines franchise. The announcement came during Gamescom Opening Night Live, putting an end to months of speculation that began when a Korean ratings board listed the title earlier this year.
The game is being developed by Iceflake Studios, the same studio that took over development of Cities: Skylines 2 at the start of 2026 after original developer Colossal Order stepped away from the franchise at the end of 2025. This marks a new chapter for the city-building series, as Iceflake now applies its experience to a Lego-themed spin-off.
Lego Skylines will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. No release date has been announced yet.
What the trailer showed
The reveal trailer was brief, showing little more than a fisherman reacting in surprise as Lego buildings are constructed around him. Despite the short runtime, the tone and visual style drew comparisons to classic Lego games from the pre-Lego Star Wars era, such as Rock Raiders, Lego Island, and Lego Stunt Rally. One observer noted that a Lego take on the city-building genre feels overdue, expressing surprise that such a crossover had not been attempted before.
How the project came to light
Rumours of Lego Skylines first surfaced in May 2026, when the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea, the country's equivalent of PEGI or ESRB, rated several unannounced titles. Among them was a Paradox Interactive project called "Lego Skylines," which many correctly interpreted as a Lego version of the Cities: Skylines franchise. The same ratings listing also included other titles such as Persona 4 Revival, Ace Combat 8, Gears of War E-Day, and Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, but the Lego crossover was the one that sparked the most curiosity among city-building fans.
A shift in studio leadership
The involvement of Iceflake Studios is significant because it represents a change in who is steering the Cities: Skylines series. Colossal Order, the original creator of Cities: Skylines and its sequel, handed the franchise over to Iceflake at the end of 2025. Iceflake began work on Cities: Skylines 2 at the start of 2026, and now the studio is applying its understanding of the city-building genre to a Lego-themed project. The publisher Paradox Interactive remains the same, ensuring continuity in the business side of the franchise.
Genre and platform details
Lego Skylines is described as a cozy city-building game, one that replaces the usual realistic or stylised graphics with Lego bricks and minifigures. The game is confirmed for four platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The inclusion of the Switch 2, a console that has not yet been released, suggests that the game is targeting a broad audience across current and next-generation hardware.
No release date yet
While the announcement has confirmed the game's existence and its developer, Paradox Interactive has not provided a release window. Fans will have to wait for further details on when Lego Skylines will launch. In the meantime, the publisher has not indicated whether the game will be a full-priced release or a smaller, more experimental title.
For those who enjoy city-building games, Lego Skylines appears to be a straightforward crossover: take the mechanics of Cities: Skylines, replace the traditional assets with Lego bricks, and add a lighthearted, family-friendly tone. Whether that formula will appeal to long-time fans of the series or to a new audience drawn by the Lego brand remains to be seen, but the announcement has already generated considerable interest among both communities.
