Capcom confirms Mega Man skin for Pragmata after years of fan speculation

After years of speculation and one elaborate April Fools' joke, Capcom has confirmed that a Mega Man costume is coming to its long-awaited sci-fi adventure Pragmata. The announcement was made during Gamescom Opening Night Live, following a new trailer for the upcoming Mega Man: Dual Override.
The skin, which Capcom says is "coming soon" to Pragmata, allows players to dress protagonist Hugh as the iconic Blue Bomber. It does not alter the game’s story or transform it into a Mega Man title, but it gives fans a chance to play through the adventure in familiar armour. Capcom has not yet announced a release date for Pragmata or explained exactly how the costume will be obtained.
Since Pragmata was first revealed in 2020, fans have debated whether the game was secretly connected to the Mega Man series. The theory was fuelled by the game’s lunar setting, its focus on robots and artificial intelligence, and the design of Diana, an android girl who wears a blue jacket with sleeves that resemble Mega Man’s arm cannon. Capcom repeatedly denied the connection. In 2025, Pragmata producer Naoto Oyama told VGC that the game "is not a Mega Man game" and described it as a completely new Capcom IP. The company then leaned into the speculation with an April Fools' video showing Hugh wearing an elaborate Mega Man costume. That joke has now become a real piece of Pragmata.
The Mega Man skin was announced after a new trailer for Mega Man: Dual Override, Capcom’s first new mainline Mega Man game since 2018’s Mega Man 11. The trailer showed more of the game’s 2D side-scrolling action and introduced a new boss named Twinkle Girl. It also teased new gameplay systems, including what appears to be a transformation or upgrade for Mega Man’s armour. Mega Man: Dual Override is scheduled to launch in 2027 across gaming platforms. Capcom has not announced a specific release date.
The confirmation of the Mega Man skin in Pragmata marks a rare instance where a long-running fan theory has been partially validated by the developer. While the game remains a standalone new IP, the inclusion of the costume acknowledges the community’s persistent speculation. Capcom’s decision to turn an April Fools' joke into a real in-game item also suggests a willingness to engage with its audience’s theories in a playful manner.
For now, Pragmata’s release date remains unconfirmed, and Capcom has not detailed how the Mega Man skin will be distributed. The game was first announced in 2020 and has since been delayed multiple times. The company has not provided a new launch window for the title. Meanwhile, Mega Man: Dual Override is set to arrive in 2027, though no specific month or day has been given.
The addition of the Mega Man skin to Pragmata is a small but notable crossover, bringing Capcom’s most recognisable robot hero into a completely new universe. Whether it will lead to further connections between the two franchises remains to be seen, but for now, fans can look forward to exploring the lunar setting as the Blue Bomber.
