Modern Warfare 4 beta extended by 12 hours with double XP to help players reach level cap
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 open beta was originally scheduled to end today, but Activision has announced a last-minute extension that gives players a full half-day more to earn rewards.
The beta, which opened its second weekend to all players on August 28, was set to close at 1 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, September 1. Infinity Ward has now confirmed that the test period will continue until 1 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 2 — a 12-hour extension. To help players make the most of the extra time, the studio has also activated double progression XP and double weapon XP, which will remain active until the beta shuts down.
For those wondering exactly when the beta ends in their region, the times are as follows: 10 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, September 1 for the west coast of North America; 1 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 2 for the east coast of North America; 2 a.m. BRT on Wednesday, September 2 for Brazil; 6 a.m. BST on Wednesday, September 2 for the United Kingdom; 7 a.m. CEST on Wednesday, September 2 for western Europe; 2 p.m. JST on Wednesday, September 2 for Japan; and 3 p.m. AEST on Wednesday, September 2 for the east coast of Australia.
What the beta offers
The second weekend of the beta has raised the level cap to 30, up from the first weekend's limit of 20. This allows players to unlock additional weapons, killstreaks, and perks, as well as earn beta rewards that can be carried over to the full game. Among the most sought-after prizes is a special weapon blueprint, which is awarded to anyone who reaches the maximum level before the beta closes.
The beta includes a variety of maps, modes, and guns. Notably, the mode Kill Block has been available, though it was limited to Gunfight. Also new to the second weekend is Ground War, Call of Duty's large-scale battle mode. Players can also try a campaign level called Entrenched, which tasks them with preventing the destruction of a nuclear power station. Once the beta ends, the next opportunity to play Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer will be at the game's launch on October 23. For those who preorder, the single-player campaign unlocks a week earlier than that.

Modern Warfare 4 is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. This marks the first time a Call of Duty title has appeared on a Nintendo platform since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts. The game is also skipping last-generation consoles for the first time since Ghosts.
The launch of Modern Warfare 4 comes 34 days before GTA 6 arrives on November 19.
