Rog Xbox Ally X20 pre-orders are live, standalone handheld priced at $1,299.99

Pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 are now open, with the handheld available as a standalone device or bundled with augmented reality glasses. The system, a collaboration between Microsoft and Asus, is set to launch on October 15, 2026, according to the company.

The standalone ROG Xbox Ally X20 carries a price tag of $1,299.99. For that sum, buyers receive a 7.4-inch 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the internal specifications remain largely unchanged from the previous model: the X20 retains 24GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU. This means the device is best described as a mid-generation refresh rather than a full generational leap.

The pricing comes at a time when the cost of gaming handhelds is climbing across the board. The Steam Deck OLED now sits above $700, and Asus had been one of the few manufacturers holding its original recommended retail prices. With the X20, those higher price points are now becoming the norm for premium portable PCs.

Retail availability

Best Buy is listed as Asus's primary retail partner for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 in the United States. Pre-orders can also be placed directly through Asus, which has maintained a landing page for the device since its reveal. The direct route may offer exclusive perks, but buyers may find more flexible delivery options through a retailer.

Amazon is a less reliable option for Asus handhelds, as third-party sellers on the platform often list devices above the manufacturer's suggested retail price. In the UK, however, Amazon's listings tend to be steadier, and the ROG Xbox Ally X20 may appear at MSRP from both Amazon and third-party sellers.

Physical retailers in the UK are fewer than in previous years, but Argos is expected to stock the handheld at some point, even if pre-orders take longer to appear. Currys typically lists pre-orders for new handhelds, though it is unclear whether it will do so for the X20.

Bundle option

Alongside the standalone device, Asus is offering an "Ultimate Bundle" that includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case, and a custom Pelican carrying case. The glasses are a key addition, offering a different way to play games on the go.

Demand for the X20 is uncertain. The device is a premium portable PC, and there are already non-OLED versions of the handheld on the market. That may limit the number of buyers willing to pay the higher price for an OLED screen and the same internal hardware. Still, with pre-orders now live, those who want to secure a unit may want to reserve one in case stock runs low.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 represents a cautious step forward for the handheld gaming PC market. It offers a better screen and a refined design, but the core performance is identical to the previous model. Whether that is enough to justify the price will depend on how much buyers value the OLED display and the bundled extras.
