Six-hour Baldur's Gate 3 mod adds Astarion campaign with four endings and six new companions

A new Baldur's Gate 3 mod has delivered one of the first substantial custom campaigns for Larian Studios' RPG, offering players a six-hour story centred on the vampire elf companion Astarion. Titled A Dream of Silence: ReVamped, the mod is now available in its complete form on Nexus Mods, having been released in three separate acts over the past year.

The campaign is an adaptation of a browser-based text adventure created by Abigail Corfman, reworked into a full Baldur's Gate 3 experience by modder lizardphunk. The narrative takes place inside Astarion's mind, where a Bastellus—a living nightmare that feeds on dream energy—has taken control. The player character is projected into this dreamscape and must accompany Astarion through a twisted version of Cazador's dungeon, the location of his traumatic past. The mod's creator has stated that the project was built to showcase the capabilities of Baldur's Gate 3's modding tools, raising hopes for further custom campaigns in the future.

A Dream of Silence: ReVamped includes four different endings and six new companions, each with unique dialogue lines and rewards. The mod also features more dynamic combat and boss fights, and, according to its description, "a kitty that potentially accepts scritches." Each of the three acts is structured differently: Act One is primarily dialogue-driven, Act Two introduces new mechanics and the companions while allowing combat and conversation, and Act Three changes the format again, though the creator has not specified how.

The release marks a significant milestone for Baldur's Gate 3 modding. Early last year, modders suggested that custom campaigns comparable to those seen in the Skyrim modding community could arrive in 2025, thanks to Patch 7's introduction of level editing, save editing, and other tools. However, progress has been slow, with limitations such as multiplayer restrictions hampering development. Projects like Return to Candlekeep are underway, but A Dream of Silence: ReVamped is one of the first to deliver a complete, story-driven campaign.

What this means for Baldur's Gate 3's future

The mod arrives at a time when official expansion for Baldur's Gate 3 appears unlikely. Larian Studios has stated it has no plans to develop further content for the game, instead focusing on its next project, Divinity, about which little has been revealed since a trailer last year. Hasbro, which owns the Baldur's Gate licence, is reportedly seeking a studio to develop Baldur's Gate 4, though the scale of the challenge has deterred many developers. Owlcat Games, known for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, has expressed interest in taking on the project.

For now, mods like A Dream of Silence: ReVamped represent the closest thing to new Baldur's Gate 3 content for players who have exhausted the base game's considerable replayability. The mod is available for PC only, and its creator hopes it will inspire further custom campaigns built with Larian's tools. Whether the modding community can sustain the momentum needed for larger projects remains to be seen, but the release of a complete, six-hour campaign with multiple endings and new companions suggests that the foundations are in place.
