Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance weapon changes revealed in daily Boosted Action trailers

Capcom has begun releasing daily trailers for Monster Hunter Wilds’ upcoming expansion, Ascendance, teasing new mechanics that will apply across all 14 weapon types. The first videos, published today, focus on the Great Sword and the Bow, and introduce a system called Boosted Actions that the publisher says will expand each weapon’s moveset.
The expansion itself was previously announced for a 2027 release, though Capcom had stayed quiet on details since then. Fans had expected more news at Gamescom 2026, but the publisher instead saved its big showing for Tokyo Game Show later this month. The new trailer rollout appears timed to lead directly into that event, with one video promised per day, covering each weapon in turn and concluding on 15th September, the eve of TGS.
What Boosted Actions do
According to Capcom’s description, Boosted Actions are tied to a new piece of equipment called the Boost Bracer. Players will build energy by staying aggressive in combat, then activate Boost with a special Boost Driver attack or other weapon-specific actions. Once Boosted, hunters gain access to new combos, enhanced attacks, and other unique abilities designed to help them take on the more powerful threats that await in Master Rank.
The Great Sword breakdown video shows three distinct ways to enter the Boosted state. The first is a Brace Boost move, which is slow but deals heavy damage. The second is Quick Boost, which switches the hunter into a stance. The third involves chaining a specific combo to trigger Boost naturally. The footage suggests there are three charges to the meter, though Capcom has not confirmed whether this will vary between weapon types.
The broader overview trailer offers glimpses of how the system plays across the roster. The Hammer, for instance, appears to gain a more forgiving perfect guard mechanic, encouraging a far more aggressive style of play and culminating in what looks like a punchy, uppercut-style finisher. The Charge Blade, meanwhile, seems to have picked up a counter move that resembles a projectile wave, and the Great Sword itself gains a whole new aerial moveset, adding versatility to a weapon traditionally known for its grounded, deliberate strikes.
A shift toward offence
Judging by the early footage, the overall design philosophy behind Ascendance is pushing hunters to play faster and more offensively. The Boost Bracer rewards constant pressure rather than cautious positioning, and the new abilities appear to be built around chaining attacks together and capitalising on openings. Managing the Boost meter will presumably become a new layer of resource management layered on top of existing mechanics such as monster wounds and stamina.
Capcom has not yet confirmed whether the Boosted state will function identically across all 14 weapons, or whether some will have unique quirks in how they build or spend energy. The daily trailer schedule should clarify this over the coming fortnight, with each video dedicated to a single weapon type and its specific Boosted Action breakdown.
The expansion’s release date within 2027 has not been confirmed beyond that year, and no further story details or new monsters have been shown in these trailers. What is clear is that Capcom is using the run-up to Tokyo Game Show to build momentum for Ascendance, giving players a steady drip of mechanical reveals rather than a single large showcase.
Whether the Boosted Action system will fundamentally change how each weapon is played, or simply add a new layer on top of existing combos, remains to be seen in the full release. For now, the trailers offer the first concrete look at how the expansion intends to evolve the combat loop, and the response from the community will likely shape expectations heading into TGS.
The next trailer in the series is expected to arrive tomorrow, continuing the countdown toward the Tokyo Game Show presentation. With 14 weapons in total, Capcom has scheduled daily updates through mid-September, giving hunters a steady stream of information to digest before the expansion’s eventual launch next year.
